I have a 88 Eddie Bauer full size and the trans is starting to go, the 5.0 engine is getting old...still runs strong tho. I bought a 1995 full size XLT with a 5.0 and auto for parts (wanted to steal the hubs and some other parts off it). Will the engine and trans from the 95 work in my 88? Can I just pull n drop or will it require a ton of extra work?

Since you have both trucks I'm thinking it's an easy swap. You may have to use the 88 mounts, and of course swap over the 95s comp. and wiring. But it should be pretty straight forward.

I'm sure Bully, Krafty, mieck5, Elmo and some others could tell you for sure. If they don't chime in here, try to pm them.

Good Luck

One big question is what trans do each of these vehicle have. the E4OD or the AOD, the E4OD has the electronic overdrive with the od off button on the end of the shifter which needs the right computer to operate where as the Aod does not.

miesk5 might be able to clarify the computer issue, I don't know if the obdII computers from 94-96 will mate up with the wiring from an eec-iv system in the 88. if the sensors on the engines are the same then you might be-able to get away with using a older eec-iv computer wich is setup for the 95's engine and trans combo.
