They have different supply fuses. The tailgate is hot at all times while the driver switch only has power when the key is in the run position. I'd check that first, not much different after that. Also if the driver switch sticks in the up or down position, it prevents the door key switch from working.

Looking at the diagram it is the path on the right, as you can see it goes directly to the key switch thru a couple of connectors. It is the black with white stripe wire. C124 is located on the lower side of the left hand dash panel, C123 is on the left rear crossmember under the bumper, and If you are 80 -86 C1907 is behind the left tail light. Another place that has common problems is where the wires come out of the tail light area to the tail gate. They often break from flexing and getting caught. You might want to look there first if the fuse is good.

Good luck,

:)>-

The window works up and down via the driver switch. So I assume it is not "sticking" correct?

By sticking I mean in the UP or Down position and not returning to center, not the contacts.

I have trouble with mine sticking, so I have to make sure it is in the center position after using it, The first time it happened it took me about an 30 minutes of troubleshooting to find it. That page I included is from the EVTM for my 83 truck. If I had to choose which manual to get for general troubleshooting it is the one I would choose. Can't beat the diagrams in it :D . It has saved me countless hours of head scratching :D/ . If your switch is definately in the center position and the fuse for the key switch is good, then check the wiring shown in the path from the fuse to the motor.

C124 is on lower side of left hand dash panel, C123 is on the rear cross member, c1907 is behaind the tail light. Another common point of failure is the wsire harness between the tailgate and the tail light area. The wire you are interested in is black with a white stripe.

Good luck,

:)>-

The fuse is fine...I will check the wires.

I had the same trouble with my back window. The trouble with mine is one of the plugs near the frame ( I haven't had a chance to get under there to find it yet ). My fix was to run a wire from the battery to the power wire behind the taillight. This is only a quick fix as it could cause problems later. You MAY want to try this till you can get under the truck to find the corrosion problem.
