Well, I finally got it done. I swapped in the rear axle from my 1988 Bronco parts truck to my 1982 Bronco. It was a bolt in swap. I did go from 9inch to the 8.8inch, but since i had the parts Bronco already and I'm not going mudding i figure its ok.

The 1988 rear end had a support bar, and it bolted directly in as well, in the stock frame holes on the 1982, that was somewhat suprising. Anyway, it now runs and drives great...no more screaming and oil leaks!

One thing i'm not sure about is the wiring (red/green) on the 1988 rear axle, what is that for??

I'm not sure what i'll swap out next, any suggestions?

Quote"I swapped in a 1988 rear axle to my 1982 Bronco, whats the wiring on the diff pupkin for? I think it was 2 red/green wires. "

It's for the VSS (Speed sensor) which you don't need in the 82, unless you swapped to fuel injection.

I assume by "support bar" that you mean the anti-sway bar? Glad that bolted up for you. Watch the rear brake cylinders for leaks if that axle has been sitting for awhile.
