Did some good down hill and finally found the truck avenger carb limits, next step fuel injection, or rear axle winch, because when the truck(well tuned running great) stalled the rear wanted too go forward the front, this time I pushed the gas(refired and rearend went down, other times I have pushed in the clutch, and the backend went down.Stinger might be needed, fuel injection or propane, (trail only truck)????? Any suggestions Thanx BBB

Do the fuel injection before anything else & you will kick yourself for not doing that in the first place rather than buying the TA carb. I guarantee it. EFI will run upside down, as long as there is gas in the tank and power to the pump, she won't let you down.

If I had everything that I have done to do over, in order I would put the EFI or hydroboost as my #1 & #2 upgrades and the rest secondary. Flip a coin on which day. In the 7-8 years I have had EFI, I have never had problems, just maintanence issues.

you are going to need basically everything from the intake manifold up....manifold, plenum, throttle body, wiring harness, computer, distributer & I would even get the heads so you can use the newer spark plugs. Everything will bolt directly up to your block. Look at fordfuelinjection.com for some help & also do a google search for 302 EFI conversion. You should be able to get everything off of a junkyard motor for $500 or there around.

Idealy, an 88-93 Mustang or T-bird. That is because of the mass air setup & potential H.O. computer. If that isn't an option, then go with any 5.0 from 86-93. 85-87 Ford, Lincoln or Mercury had the speed density system, which is what I have, and they are very reliable but the 88-93 engines were changed over to mass air. I don't know everything with the MA/SD differences, but either one will work as a bolt on application to your existing block. Just be sure to get everything. For a junkyard pre-pulled, you will probably look in the area of $5-800 depending on what vehicle it came out of (i.e. Mustang will be more expensive than a T-bird because it is a 'Stang). If you go and pull it all, more than likely around $3-500.

If you found a complete motor with everything....delivered for less than $700, jump at it. Especially if it is off of a Mustang. That computer alone usually runs in the $200 neighborhood. Everything will bolt directly up. It is still a 302/289 block, so your bell housing is good. The only thing I have to ask is if the engine is off of an auto or manual, because I see that yours is an NP tranny. If it is a manual engine, then you are golden. An auto engine, I am not 100% sure. I have never dealt with anything in that direction, so I never thought about it. Someone else might be able to chime in and give that advice. But yeah, I would go for it.
