I have an 88 bronco II, 2.9 liter..it sat for prolly 6 months..I did a complete tune-up..plugs, wires, all filters, drained most of the gas out, but still have a 1/4 of a tank...i also put injecter cleaner in the gas as well..but, when i hit the gas, it holds back a lot...putters really bad, then it will stall..restart in a min or two..i took the fuel line off before the fuel filter and turned the key on to see the amount of pressure it had, and i left the key on for about 8 to 10 min..it filled a empty 1-gal milk jug only about a inch and half..also, when it does stall, it takes 30-60 sec to restart..it seems like fuel will keep up with the trottle if i gradully press the gas, but when i hit it alittle hard, it wont go, just putter..could that be a map sensor?..can anyone give me some advice as quick as possible...thanx

If it stalls, check your timing... Could be off a tooth or two. If it sputters and just won't go, well, ****, sounds like you've got a crack in the hardware. But the stalling happened with my rig, an '85, and it turned out to be the timing. And it sputtered and didn't like accelerating at a reasonable rate, which turned out to be a cracked carb, which was fixed with some quick cementing 'poxy. Okay, not fixed, but jerry rigged.

You should take off your ignition module and have it tested. It is on the back of the distributor, It takes a 7/32 deep THIN socket. Any Advance Auto, O'Reilly or Auto Zone can do the testing. The ignition module has 3 phases: Start, Idle and run. One on these phases can go bad and your car will run like crap at idle, for example, but once you hit the gas that phase of the module that is fine will take over and with the gas pressed it will run just fine and vice versa. It's only 2 fasteners it's worth the try and you'd be surprised. Oh and by the way, don't forget while putting a new one on, or the old one, apply dioelectric grease. Good luck. P.S. I would try the ignition module before messing with the timing. The same thing happened to me with my 2.9 and symptomatically it does appear to be the timing, but in my case, it wasn't. And when I installed the new one, I had to time it all over again.
