I am new to this group and have the same exact problem with my back window. Its a 1986 that I recently purchased. The back window worked for a few days but just the other day it just stopped. I have tried every thing under the sun and I have power all the way back.....but no window working.

I was wondering if you had any luck fixing yours and if you did what worked for you?

to Penguin- do you have power to the motor? if so then look at grounds or possibly a bad window motor. if you dont have power at the plug to the motor then try testing the safety switch like miesk5 suggested previously

Please don't piggyback on another post, start your own thread. If you piggyback, chances are more likely you will get ignored. It also takes attention away from the original posters problem.

Thanks,

Attached is a diagram of the circuit. Common problems are;

1. the safety switch located in the left tail gate latch, (could be bad or need adjustment), try pushing on the left side while operating the switch, if that works, then the lug that the latch grabs may need to be adjusted.

2. The most common connector to corrode and even have the wires break off is the one located on the left side of the tub support cross member.

3. There is also a connector behind the left tail light.

4. There are two fuses, see diagram.

5.The ground for the circuit is through the dash switch, could be a bad switch.

6. Possible bad connector to the motor

7. Motor drive gears bad (do you hear the motor running but nothing happening)

8. Motor bad (hot wire it to see if it will operate, (reversing the leads will reverse the direction of the motor)(use a 12 or 14.4 volt drill battery and a set of leads to hot wire the motor)

Good luck,

:)>-

When it happened to mine i realized that it has a fail-safe on the driver's side tailgate latch. If the striker bolt on that side wears down the latch will not fully close. This causes the circuit to think the tailgate is down since it detects the latch being closed, thus no up or down on the window if it is not shut properly.

I also have just posted some parts for that on Craigslist if anyone is interested in CO
