Bidi, I wish I knew they were going to make some soon. I have written everyone I could find who make/sell soft tops. The ones who wrote me back said no plans in the future as of now.

I would much rather buy a nice shinny new one in the exact color I want. It is scary sending a cashiers check to a stranger across the country hoping he ain't selling me a crapped out used unit for too much money. 350 is as high as I am going and it is just short of that now.

I asked the fella to send more photos of the top, rails and bows. I ain't heard noting yet.

i never got to take a good look at that one i saw a while ago, i might consider buying this one to make a few copys, only stronger. I noticed alot of pop rivets on the one I saw a couple months ago, Id likely plug weld it to make it less likeley to suffer structural creep damadge, also some of the hinging hardware looked a little chinsey, I'd use something stronger there too.

If I were to do that who would be interested in one? REALLY After about 4 of them I'd likely break even on the purchase of the original, or atleast defer the cost a little. I have access to a tubing bender and I work as a welder doing mostly TIG welding, so it wouldn't be a huge effort for me to manufacture a few.

All I need is one to study for a while. If anybody has one anywhere near southeast PA I'd REALLY like to study it. I should be able to skate by any kind of patent infringment by improving upon their design.

There's a canvas shop not to far from me, ill swing by tommorow with some pictures and ask for an estimate. Also I might be able to do the canvas work myself, from the breif look I got a while back it looked relitivley simple, easier than redoing leather seats atleast.

I dunno yet, exactly but probably in the 300 - 400 dollar range. Until I actually have one to take a good look at I cant say for sure, I only got maybe a 10 minute look at one once months ago, I'm good at remembering that kind of stuff but I simply did not study the whole thing.

EDIT:

theres some more pictures and the price is now up to 400 on eBay, id not be surprised to see a like minded individual to end up paying 6 or 7 for it, hope he changes the design enough to avoid a legal suit. Hopefully ill find more pictures, I could likely build one completely from pics and just adjust it a little to come up with a final design. If anybody out there has one of these tops and can take some pictures id be really great full, if you don't have a digital cam I'll reimburse ya for a roll of film.

Yep, it is reaching out of my range now for a used top. It is too used to fetch that price, moldy looking inside on top, windows look sloppy and loose.

I would be interested in something new for around the $600 range.

If I had the resources to manufacture and sell them I don't think I would worry about someone suing me over copyright because no one else is making them or cares to so it is a wide open market.

So build away Bronco Mechanic and they will come!

I've seen those tops bring $500+ on Ebay. There was one that the guys here were watching a few months ago that sold for $600 and the guy charged $100 for shipping. I paid about $650 new for mine, delivered to my door. Mine came via UPS and the shipping label said something like $20 so that guy really made a killing on his used top.

Can't really fault the seller (except maybe for the outrageous shipping in some cases). The tops are hard to find and people want them badly enough to bid that high.

I've been contemplating attemting to make my own but my wife keeps telling me I'll be getting over my head. Then again, she said that when I pulled my engine. I guess she just doesn't know anything...

The seller must be reading BroncoZone. :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> Now he's added a note that shipping will be $60 anywhere in the US. Not the cheapest, but way better than $100 like I've seen before.

Come on guys, 'fess up! Who selling their soft top?

Heck he is getting almost $900 for a moldy floppy stretched out used rag top he should ship it for free. For that kind of money I could hit the custom auto/boat trim shop and have a nice top fabricated I would think. The Bronco owner that is buying this item must have one nice pimped out Bronco. A buyer like that would think nothing of having 10 grand in an engine with 5k worth of rims.

The drawings and install instructions are still available online for the Kayline fastrac tops. Go to Kayline, Specialty Top Co. or The-jeep.com. I'll try to get some pics of my tonneau-style of fastback Kayline this weekend before I ship it to another Bronco ownere that's buying it. Looks fairly easy to make the brackets, and have an upholstery shop make the canopy top. I wouldn't think you're infringing on the copywright of the top, since the companies are out of business. Who's going to file the complaint?
