I have a similar smell to mine. No fluid leaks either.. I think it might be an exhaust leak or exhaust coming in through the body somewhere. As to how to find and treat it i'm not that far along yet. Sorry.

If your tailk pipe moves up and down and your body is some what rusted just get yourself a turn down pipe for a quick fix.

What you are smelling is most likely the cat loading with extra exhaust components, most likely due to either being clogged, or not getting air from the air pump.

Good luck,

If the Air pump is functioning, then make sure that the air is being pumped to the cat. The proceedure is a bit long. I'll photograph the pages in my shop manual if you like but not tonight. Then if that is working correctly, you most likely need to replace the cat, especially if it is real old.
