I just purchased an '89 Bronco......has little rust and runs like a horse!

But the problem is the back window will not go down and so the tail gate will not open. I had a Ford dealer hook it up to a diagnostic (for free, thank goodness) and there are no electrical shorts. Fuses seem to be intact as well.

Took the back panel off from inside the vehicle and its obvious that someone had worked on it before since there was a layer of duct tape under the panel. Took the motor out, tested it on the battery and it works. Checked the wiring at certain points and I am getting power to the "up" mode but not the "down". So I figured it needed new wiring. Ran up to the autoparts store, bought some wiring to fix the issues and when I went to test the wires again before installing the new wiring I don't show any power to either the "up" or "down" mode. Arrrgggggghhh!!

Anyone got any ideas on what to try next?

Good news!!!!!!!!!!! Tail gate window is fixed. A days worth or work and some new wiring and the baby is going up and down like a champ.

What a relief :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Mine comes down, but not up without help. Also the key switch doesn't work. Havent looked at it too much yet. Maybe its just the cold weather up here in alaska. My buddy just had his 94 overhauled at the dealer and his is still pretty weak.

Check out the fuse (F12) for the key switch. It is different than the one for the driver switch. My motor struggles in the winter also. There are a lot of things that can cause the problem like corrosion in connectors, weak motor, etc. You can improve the wiring by replacing the #12 AWG wire with #10 AWG wire, which is in my plan for this years projects. That in it's self will more than likely solve a lot of the lazy motor problems by reducing the voltage drop to it.

Good luck,

You might want to get a copy of the EVTM (Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-Truck-...Q2em118Q2el1247 . It is the single most valuable book I have and will go a long way for anyone who does his/hers own wrenching. After that a real factory set of service manuals are great, much better than the Chilton / Haynes Readers Digest versions. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1984-Ford-T...p3756.m20.l1116

So are you blowing fuses? Do you understand the diagram? There is a safety switch in the left hand latch. Try pressing in on that side while turning the key. If that works, you probably need to adjust the striker bolt.

Good luck,

:)>-
