Rear window defroster

New to the forum but not to Broncos.

We found a nice California 95 (all black) and no rust -- even the tailgate.

All seemed to work except the rear window defroster/wires. I have power to the

connection but no defrost activity. (needed it tonight) The silver wires appear

scraped and occasionally interupted.

Can anyone suggest a means to repair ??

My first post ended up on the early Bronco section, but our truck is a 95

We are new to the forum but this is our 3rd Bronco. And since we plow snow

with this truck-- the best setup ever-- it would be nice to get the rear window

defroster to work.

Everything else seems to work well on this 95 /351 W.

There is power to the defroster connections but the window didnt clear at all tonight.

The wires are scraped in some areas-- probably from the window going up and down for 14 years.

Has anyone had experience in repairing the silver 'wires' on the glass or restore the defroster system ??

i think you have to replace the glass to do the wires in the glass

You can usually find repair kits at most auto supply stores. Not too sure if they work or not, but it is like finger nail polish and you brush it across the break in the line. However if none of them work now that probably won't help.

You've seen the electrical wires for hard wired alarm systems on windows, perhaps an alarm supplier will have something, if Seabronc's suggestion does not work.

I know Napa used to sell a rear window defroster repair kit that *might* work for you... It is designed to work for small breaks in the lines but if all of the lines have a break (like if a stone scratched the window all the way down) you might be ok...

Look over the entire back glass and inspect all the lines and use a marker to mark above the break. If there are only 1 or 2 breaks on each line, you could in theory fix it...

That is a worst case solution, but it may be the best. I recently replaced my tailgate and the newer one had the defroster glass and connections with it. The old tail gate had the same glass, but the actual resistive strips were scraped off. The reason I'm mentioning this is that the old glass still looked like it had the defroster strips intact but they are only the base material that the resistive material was attached to.

Since you had responses in both posts, I merged the two.

these are good suggestions,..

Could have used the defroster today. We plowed most of the day and I had to keep lowering the window to see behind..

Thought about a 12 v fan blowing across the window -- for now.

And cranking up the heat.
