I have a 1994 Ford Bronco 5.8L, both rear wheel seals are leaking as well as the pinion seal... I have never dove into a rear end on any vehicle so I'm new to this. I have decent mechanic skills and an uncle that has done chevy's... What kind of adventure am i looking at getting into?

Thanks for the response in advance.

Hi Koma., welcome...!

The pinion may be just a loose nut. Easy job.., just drop the dr. shaft, check for wobble on the yoke,(if wobbles) chain one of the bolt holes to the frame, then check for proper torque on the nut.

If the nut was loose., you'll likely need a new one..., then proper torque may stop the leak.

If it's all in spec., remove the nut, R&R the seal & re-torque with a new nut.

Not sure if axles are the same on the 8.8 as the 9" (real simple)

Someone else will chime-in with 8.8 info. as I've not done one.

Thank you, I have been hearing that it is pretty likely that I'm gonna have to change axles as well... mine says it is an 8.8

?????

The axles should be fine.... (assuming not bent or somehow damaged)

The 'auto parts' repair manuals are good for these common maint. jobs. (aprox. $15)

BTW check to see if it's brake fluid that's leaking....not axle seals.

Well I dove into it yesterday, turns out that the seals and bearings were both out... the pinion seal was bad and when I jumped into the pumpkin, my uncle noticed that the spider gears were shot!

So after calling 8 people, I finally found a full carrier for $100, if it wasn't for the spider gear issue, we could have had it done in about 3hrs, instead it took roughly 5hrs!!!

It was a good adventure to dive into!

yo K

Too bad on that.. if the brakes are good on the replacement; you saved some $ anyway if you got brakes and axles
