Hey everyone Im new to this forum. I just bought a 78 bronco with a 400 in it. So far it has been kept completely stock which I was very surprised to find. Even the original steel wheels are on it. Anyway, I plan on restoring it to some degree (get rid of the 400 for a built 351) and a small lift. Hopefully my pic will work. The only real body damage is on the passenger door thats in the pic. What is the point of putting a 351 in if you find a 302 that you could throw in there i would say do it. There is a lot more you can do with a 302 then you can a 351.

Plans changed!!!!! Keeping the 400. I just read through a magazine that did an engine shootout and one team built a 400 that dynoed at 672 hp with a ford block and factory crank. I'm not gonna go that extreme with it, but somewhere around 500 hp should do just fine. I just want my tow rig to have more power than the boat its pulling!!!

wow 500hp you have big plans for this ride. my small town leads the country atm with gas prices so its hard for me getting 9 mpg... oh what the **** when my children are getting 200 miles a gallon 20 yrs down the road ill look back and laugh.

btw im only 17

Did you get your PSOM recalibrated when those 37" tires went on?

If not, you may actually be getting better mileage than you think.

Have a friend with a stock car drive beside you and check your speedometer for accuracy. You may be going approx 20% faster than what your speedometer reads, and may really be getting 20% better MPG than you think, giving you almost 11 MPG.
