To all my brothers out there, here's a little history lesson for you:
-all sources from wikipedia-
Did you guys know that the 2.9 v6 was made in germany? Cologne, Germany to be exact. It was an evolution of the 2.8, which was derived from a v4. Haven't you ever wondered about how the 2.9 never gives up, even after endless miles of all out flogging? Mine never did, and now I know why.
Along with being produced in the rangers, b2's, and aerostars, the 2.9 was used in europe in many cars, including the TVR S series, Ford Sierra, Ford Granada, and Merkur Scorpio. Here, the base model 2.9 came with about 140 hp. There was, however, a cosworth version (all hail the ford masters) that was converted to a DOHC (dual over head cam). This version had about 195 hp in 1991. Yes, this will fit everything mechanical to your b2 or ranger. It was made from the same exact block. Also, no distributor. From what I know, it was last upped to 210 hp in 1995.
This fyi's starlight is on the Ford Sierra. Be prepared, because this will blow your minds and make you WANT what you're about to read. The Sierra came in a version called XR4X4, and had the 2.9 optional. This car was all wheel drive, and ran until 1993. This is the good part, hold on to whatever you can:
The Ford Sierra had a TURBOCHARGED 2.9 VERSION. "Turbocharged versions of the Sierra were also available as post-production models from companies like Janspeed and, most notably, from Turbo Technics. The XR4x4 2.8 was available with a range of aftermarket kits pushing power from 150BHP to 200/230/250 BHP. The 2.9 got a twin-turbo setup, available in 225/250/280 BHP variants. Even the DOHC version got a single turbo kit, of which only a small number were made."
That's right, it's still possible to get your hands on a twin turbo 2.9, or just make yours forced induced. I myself will definately slap a Rotrex kit on mine.
Well, don't just spend all day reading this, get out there and find some info. Get going, move! (lol)
