Hi all,

Ok bought my 1987 full size bronco on the 12 of Dec.2009.The problem is it will start with the key but the rod is not returning. So you have to pull it back with a pair of pliers. And if you don't the starter keeps in gauging. Also to turn off you turn the key off and then pull the Rod all the way up.The key switch is very hard to turn sometimes.(esp when cold out side.)Is it hard to re-build a steering column.or easier just to swap out for a used/good one

Also in a separate problem When your cruising at 30-35 mph.The truck lunges/bucks,Acts like its trying to die not getting fuel ect.....And only does it at those speeds.Runs great under load and At every other speed rpm range.thought it was the overdrive shifting to early but can shift down to drive and still does it.It's not a major problem just very annoying.

ok as for the ignition where the keys go in. just replace that and see if it helps if not that try replacing the ignition switch and/or the ignition cylinder. you do not have to replace the entire steering column.

i would try a new ignition cylinder, i just bought one, it was about 20buck from a local locksmith, as for the bucking have you tried a new o2 senser? my budies truck would to that but it was at just above idle and at 5-10 mph, it might be reading wrong at a sertain speed at a sertain rpm under a sertain load....just an idea

While cleaning out the truck sunday 12/13 found a old ignition switch. So I am thinking that was replaced, but was thinking on those lines anyway.is there a spring or something that helps the lock go from start to run.Cause I have no return on the key switch.

I have not checked the o2 sensor didn't even dawn on me to check that till I read the suggestion. will replace that and see.I am not getting a check engine light. It comes on and then goes off after the truck starts.

I had that on my old 91 F150, my boss at the time showed me how to take it all apart, it was a cheap part, quite a bit of labor. not the easiest, and I didn't put it together right, the tilt wheel wouldn't lock in totally afterwards.

The return depends on a spring in the ignition that is mounted on the top of the steering column under the dash. The lock cylinder has nothing to do with that. You will most likely have to replace the whole switch mechanism. The part can be pulled at a local auto recycler or a parts supply. After changing it, do the adjustment procedure http://broncozone.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7243

Good luck,

:)>-
