Hey guys

One of the tumblers broke inside of the cylinder.

Well i bought a new one and im having trouble getting the old one out, because the key only goes about 3/4 of the way in. So my problem is how do i get the thing out i know how to get the new one in but i just cant get the old one out. I heard that i might have to drill it and i dont really want to have to do that. So if any of u have another idea plz tell me.

James

PS this is for an 1984 Bronco XLT 352(i think).

According to my shop manual you don't have any other choice except drilling it out if the key won't go in and you can't turn the cylinder to the On position. You may want to have your local friendly Ford dealer do this if you aren't comfortable with the drilling proceedure. It is a pretty detailed proceedure and has a few pictures, like where to hit the lock cylinder cap witha chisel to brake it off and where to drill, (2 locations - the retaining pin and the insice of the cylinder).

Personally, I'd leave this to someone who knows what they are doing.

Good luck,

:)>-

A good locksmith should be able to replace the unit without drilling.

If you can't find one then I'd let the dealer do the job.

The key word here is GOOD. That suggesstion went thru my mind also, but you would need one that really knows what they are doing. Reading thru a very detailed proceedure, I think I'd be a nervous wreckdoing it for the first time. I can see trashing the upper portion of the steering column if it is not done right. A lock smith might walk away saying, "I'm sorry". A Ford mechanic is supposed to know what they are doing and has a responsibility to fix it if they trash it.

The proceedure is listed in the A section of the shop manuals.

That's the suggestion from this chicken. /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Good luck,
