Hi there. Im Ben, from louisiana. i bought this 86 bronco as a project

and before i just go tearing into shit, what is the best motor in yalls

opinion for going through mud or sand, and how would yall recommend gearing the tranny?

i was looking at some of the ford 460 motors but i was worried that the weight

may do more harm than good to the mounts, springs, shocks, ect. and with 525hp

im pretty sure that would call for a new upgraded ass-end. Im thinking Ford 9"?

Im looking forward to hearing back from yall

any input is appreciated. nice talking to ya.

Hey There Ben,

Welcome...

Your question spawns other questions. Are you looking to have strictly a hunting/ trail truck, or a real "Mud Bogger" built for strictly off road and some competition, or a full on "Comp Bogger"?

For a hunting truck even a small block in good tune is a good bet. These Broncs were made with a low end with good torque. Just be sure all the support systems are functioning well.

If you are looking to raise it and put big tires on it that's another thing. Us old racers believe in the saying, " nothing replaces cubic inches." A 460 can still be supported by the stock springs if they aren't really worn out. Then again if you are looking to really add horses to the motor, I'm one that believes that you need to build a whole package and get a tranny and rear to go with it, as well as drive shafts, and seriously look at the suspention. So you are right to be looking at a 9" and alot of other upgrades as well.

Good Luck with whatever you choose...and again Welcome.
