i have an 89 bII w/ auto trans and i need to replace the whole rear end after a wreck. anyone out there know anything about what i need to look for? ie: do i need the same year,same ratio,is there a diff between auto and manual diffs?

yes mine is 4wd w/manual hubs. i was asking if there was a difference in the gearing between man and auto in relation to the rear end ratio or otherwise, i don't know anything about this stuff. thanks.The ratio has to be the same only if its 4 wheel drive. You never stated whether yours was or not. There is no such thing as a manual or automatic diff. I am not sure what you are refering to but I assume you mean manual or automatic hubs on the front diff.

The diffs can have a few different gear options, depending on what the purchaser ordered, at the time of purchase. The ratio is stamped on a tag that is attached to the diff cover. They must be the same.
