so ive finally got some of the kinks worked out of the truck but it still has this problem and its been goinon since almost day one. the truck starts up fine but it has this really low idle and if it sits long enough it dies. the only way to drive it is to hold the gas just a little bit when i put it in gear but when i stop itll die. i have no idea wat the problem is. i need help on this one.

efi I assume, clean out your idle air controller on the side of your throttle body and see if that give you an improvement.

i havent check for codes yet only because i have to find someone with the code reader to do it for me because im tight for money and quite pick one up... thats the project for this weekend. as for taking it apart i didnt do. thats wat im doin 2moro. i didnt mean to put up that i cleaned it out. i was checkin my fuel lines and that crap. i found a section of my fuel line in a loop which to me is strange. i had my buddy come over to give me a hand and he decided to check my fuel lines and found a section of my line in a loop.

with your 89 you can check the codes with a piece of wire

self test.gif

if you use a piece of wire in the configuration shown in the picture, your check engine light will flash your codes on your dash. count the flashes, short pauses mean end of a number, long pauses mean end of the code, codes are typically in sets of 3 digit numbers. it cycles through the codes twice and if you think you miss counted you just turn the key off then back on and count again.
