I started my new engine this am and got a not so good surprise . It runs like ***** !!!!

I've traced it down to Cylinder Numbers 2/3 and 6/7 .

I've replaced -

Long Block

Injectors

O2 Sensor

Wires

plugs (gapped @.045")

filters

cap/rotor

I've checked and reset

firing order

timing

plug gap

vacuum lines

harness connectors

I have 125 psi across the board (Dry)

I have "juice" to all injectors

I have fire to all plugs

All vacuum lines connected

I can't figure it out !!! and it's P!$$in' me off BIGTIME !!!!!

Called the local Ford Service Dept. and was told to swap injectors and see if the miss moved . Nope ! still the same cyls.

Dang Computerized POS

I'm whooped I have no clue and no equipment or guide to troubleshoot . Should I just capitulate and take it too Ford ?

i ahd a very similar problem took us to figure out the problem. Turns out the firing order was right. But my knucklehead friend used the firing order in the manual for the wrong motor. DO yourself a favor and triple check the firing order against the motor you have and start from there. Are you used to working on ford or chevy cuz i believe chevy numbers their cylinder differently. Just check the basics as it might turn out to be a stupid little problem and not something serious

didn't they change the fireing order for the 302 somewhere along the line? you might be using the wrong YEAR fireing order.

Try the 351 firing order 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 you are probably currently useing 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 and if you have neither of these then that is your problem . The first is the ** 302 or the 351W the second is the standard 302 . You could try a new set of plugs too I just went through that with a brand new set of motorsport platinums put a set of heads on an injected 351 the thing had no power off idle but at road speed would go like **** finally found two of the plugs were not firing all the time put new ones in good to go . Also the rotor turns counter clockwise and at your distributor by the TFI connector there will be a short harness with a jumper plug in the end that is the spout connector you absolutely must unplug that jumper to set your base timing once set plug it back in and if you hit it again with a timing light you will see that the EEC has taken over the timing function . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Yepper , I did check the firing order and then double checked it . I did a search here and found the correct order for my 94' 351 . Went back out to the shop , did a compression check ,replaced the plugs and rewired the dist . hit the key and the same 4 cylinders are still missing .

It's weird ,,, I've got it wired 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 like you suggested . Still doing it , 2-3 ; 6-7 . They are straight across from each other . Checked for a major vacuum leak no sign of one .

Heck ,,, I dunno what's up with this . I'm wondering if the rat that ate my injector harnesses got ahold of another harness that I can't see . I know I've spent close to $3k and it's still giving me the finger ! All's I want to do is get it back on the road . I'm getting tired of only one truck . I've been driving my wifes 04' Trailblazer (yippeeee) , and it's not made for hauling a load . I'm taking the old engine back tomorrow for the core after that I'm going to get something set up at the dealership . It needs to go on the "Star"tester . I REALLLLYY hate this computerized BS . Unless you're rich enough to get all the diagnostic equipment and the shop manuals to back it up yer' just pi$$in' in the wind trying to figure this stuff out .

I'll let you know what happens If'n ya care !

Did you wire your injectors wrong? You do know it's a bank- fire and not sequential port injection I assume. If ya need somebody to build you a new injector harness....I'm your man....just got done building myself one because of the friggin rats chewing them up. I made a rat-proof harness that barely squeezes into place....and it's over-built, but that's how I do everything.

Did you by chance pull out a 302 and put in the 351? IF you did then maybe you're injectors aren't fireing when they're supposed to and givin you the the mess. Just a suggestion.

Nope it was a 351 for sure , but thanks . It's strange I tell ya , only the 4 corner cylinders are firing . The 2 in the middle on both sides are dead . I pulled the fuel rail yesterday and put in 2 of my injectors from the old engine and the miss still was on the middle 4. A Tow Truck (Roll Back) will be here at 8 am. today it's going to the dealership .

I'll let you know .

I got back to this post finally .Sorry, I had forgotten about it over the last couple of months of breaking in my new engine .

The dealership had the truck for a week . It turned out to be the ECM went "****-Up" ! I got it wet (SOAKED/DROWNED) when I pressure cleaned the engine compartment etc. before I installed the new engine . STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES ! The service manager said the ECM was dripping water on the parts counter . :glare:

You'd think it would have drowned when I took the water shots of the water in our nearest creek coming up to windshield level , BUT NOOOOO , my pressure washer was the culprit .

It ended up costing $550.00 parts/labor ($325.00 for an after-market ECM) . There went my exhaust money dangit !!!! Anyway the truck is running great . I rebuilt my harness here on the dining room table after buying the harness ends from Ford . My particular trucks' harness happens to be the one-year only :(( so finding a used one in a bone-yard was impossible .
