Damn Check Engine Light

I was driving around town today and thought about how well the truck was running and how nothing is wrong, then the stupid check engine light came on. I pulled it over, turned the truck off and restarted it, the light went away. About 2 miles down the road it came back on, nothing appears to be wrong with the engine. What is going on?

the only way to find put would be to hook it up to a computer and have it tell you waht's wrong, personally unless it's noticable, how bad could it be??? :-"

The oxygen sensor has a bad habit of messing with the check engine light.

i guess i never took the Check Engine light seriously, that may be why i have gone through4-5 cars adn trucks in my short 25 years of life....

Haha(bigcountry), Ive never put a huge amount of faith in check engine lights. I mean on newer cars they come on if the gas cap isnt just so

Thats the problem, they have the stupid light hooked to way too many things. Too many possibilities, thats why the techs can charge $120.00 an hour.

mine came on just because i had a bad plug wire somewhere, but it still ran fine. put new wires on and it turned off. also i somehow got mud in the plug for my egr valve and it also turned on. i just cleaned it up and it turned off.

I'll check everything, it turns on more frequently now and my gas mileage is crappy-er.

Well, I feel stupid. The truck died in the driveway today amd I can no longer hear the fuel pump. I think the computer needs to have trouble codes cleared.
