Anyone know how to create a bypass circuit for the tailgate window/keyswitch? I was able to hook up a batt charger to get the window up, but I want to rig a cheap manual switch so I don't have to run an ac power cord and batt charger every time I want to roll the winow up. <_<

You would need a double pole double throw switch if you only want it to work from the back. However, you may have a problem getting power to it and in order to fix that, you will have fixed the real problem. It is not a difficult circuit to troubleshoot. There are a couple of connectors and two fuses involved. In the 80 - 86 trucks there is a connector behind the left rear tail light, one on the rear cross member and one under the dash.

As you will see from the attached diagram, the ground connection for both switches is under the dash. If both switches are failing, this is the first path I would check out. The leads in the connectors ofted corrode and break off.

Good luck,

:)>-

This might help you figure out how to wire a DPDT Center Off Momentary Contact switch for the back window.

The wires for the motor are the same as the factory leads.

ShadowD is right, meant to say DPDT with center off. True to my comment on communication :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Like Seabronc said, you're real issue won't be the switch. It will be the power supply. Unless you're going to keep a battery in the back, you'll have to rewire the circuit anyway to get power, and will probably end up fixing it anyway. Why put the effort to rig it up, when you could fix it with not much more effort?

There's a lot of ways you could rig it to get to t from the inside depending on your problem. If it's just a power issue, you could keep a battery in the back and wire it to that, but if it's the switch you may as well fix one of the two switches. It may cost a tad more to get the right switch, but it will be worth it when you consider the extra time and effort making your own would entail.
