Hi all - hope you can give a little advice...couple years ago I lost a tooth on the gears in the rear end and with the help of a friend, fished out the metal and filled up the case with heavier gear oil. Everything was fine til I got some new tires and an alignment last week. All of a sudden, I've got a BIG clunk in the rear end. I parked it and don't know if I can drive it the five miles to home and try to take a look or if I need to tow it. I'm in the SF bay area and also need to know a good place to pick up a used rear end to replace it with. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

since you posted in feb, is it still parked and are you still wondering?

if so, the clunk you heard was most likely the center pin in the differential snapping out and taking at least one of your spider gears along with it, like my positraction did to me as me and my friend were on our way to jazz practice.

You might want to pull in home with the rear tires on a dolly. If you try and limp home you might lock up the rear end and no be able to get it off the road to park.
