I'm going to guess you have tried it with both the dash switch & the key in the tail gate. I would start with checking the fuses next, if it will go down with the key you'll need a switch mine ate fuses till I replaced the dash switch

Trouble shoot it from the switch on back...is the switch working? Ohm it out, then see if your source to it is good. Can the window go down when using the key in the tail gate?

Keep it simple...Toggle switch, if that seems good...go from the switch to the motor, do you get 12 volts or so when someone depresses that switch?

This is easy to track down, just keep it simple and break it into small sections

Good luck

Here is the circuit. Get a meter and check it out. You might want to start with jumpering the motor leads to a 12V source to see if it is a motor or control problem and then work from there. Reversing the leads reverses the motor direction. A a common culprit in the tail gate is the safety switch located in the left side latch.

Good luck,

:)>-

PLEASE tell me what book that diagram is from! It looks a lot better than the old Chilton's book I am using. By the way, I am having the same problem with the rear window on my 86. It worked once about a week ago, so I feel sure the motor is good. Gonna use this diagram to fix mine!

My Bronco was doing the same thing(would'nt go down from key or switch)and it was just shorted out wiring so I took a small piece of stereo wire and connected it from the positice yo negative on the tailgate's key switch. took ten minutes and was totally free(wire was laying around)

the books you want are the shop manuals for your bronco. they are year specific and there are sometimes 2 or 3. i have a 94 and there are 3, body/chassis, powertrain /drivetrain, and wire diagrams. they are the end all say all in book about your bronco. it will tell you the torque of every bolt, where every wire goes, etc. so go on ebay and u can pick them up used for 50 - 100 dollars

The single most useful shop manual I have for vacuum and electric is the EVTM (Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual). You can find them on ebay and consider it an investment in your truck. Search "Ford Bronco EVTM".

Good luck,

I had a problem with my back window on my 87 a few years back, it turned out to be some safetly interlock switch/sensor that prevens the window from going out when the tailgate is down....

since it's been a few years since the repair, I can't remember exactly what I did though but check the interlock before getting a new motor.....
