Is there a way to adjust the gear indicator position in the cluster? The indicator line does not quite line up center on the gear letters. In drive, the indicator is slightly left of the "D". Is there an adjustment rod or **** that will line it back up? It's a 3 speed auto with no overdrive. It goes into all gears fine... I just accidently skip reverse occasionally when shifting quickly.

I believe the later model Broncs have a thin line attached to a clip on the column. Remove the pannel right under the column below the shift indicator. You should then see the clip and line. You can carefully move the clip slightly...very slightly... to adjust the indicator. A plastic scraper is good for pushing on the clip, so you don't scratch the paint.

yo,

As Ron said;

C6 Shift Indicator Adjustment; "...There's a thin cable going from the shifter to the shift indicator. Once you take off the steering column cover, you'll see the small cable and the shift indicator component. The positioning is adjustable, just have to unscrew it and move it around till you get what you want..."

& Shift Indicator Cable Repair in an 84; "...The plastic tubing that holds the gear indicator cable is broken in several places, starting at the point where it meets the indicator housing, which removes from the rest of the cluster with two screws. I ended up removing the cable entirely (which was broken as well) and replacing it with a thin piece of wire (from a CAT5 cable, actually) that is flexible but rigid enough to not bind. I still need to find a thin enough piece of plastic line to house it before I can reattach it to the shift arm, though..."

Ok thanks for the help guys. I'm going to investigate. So I should put it in drive with the column lever against the stop... Then adjust the indicator cable so it centered over the "D" lever. That's shouldn't be too difficult.

That was super easy. The hardest part was wiggling the column cover off haha! Once your in there, there a white plastic adjuster with a bolt in the center. Just loosen to the bolt and slide the adjuster down to move the indicator to the right or vice versa. Also there is a clear bar under the "D" letter to help you line it up perfect! Pics attached.
