89 Bronco II Engine Options and Info

Hello Everyone. I am new here but am looking for a lot of information. I have a 1989 Bronco II with the standard 2.9L V6 and its an automatic 4X4 unit. Anyways, a long time ago the oil blew on the engine and to my understanding the oil pump is internal. I wanted to ask if anyone knows what size engine I might be able to bolt up to my existing transmission. I would like something bigger than the 2.9L that is there. Any help is much appreciated. I had an 84 with a C-5 auto tranny and had a 302 v-8 that bolted up to it. This was done by the p.o. but I blew out 3rd and reverse pretty quick. Sold it due to the p.o.'s doing a lot mickey mousing on the build. Anyways not sure what tranny you have but I've heard that switching in other tranny's aren't too hard if you want to upgrade to bigger engines.
