I would say the 460 motor will NOT bolt right up to your stock 89 Bronco tranny, whether it is a manual or auto. The stock 82-96 Bronco's use a small block motor like the 300 I-6, 302 or 351W V8. The 460 is classed as a big block and has a different bolt pattern to fit a Ford tranny.

In order to swap the EFI 460 into your 89 Bronco, you will need a tranny that was originally mated to a 460 or other big block motor. You will also need the engine wiring harness for the 460, along with the motor mounts used for that motor type.

A great source of adapters and parts for a 460 swap is L&L Products here in Texas. Search for their link in a previous post or do a Google search.

1. Go buy a gas card. Because what little gas mileage you have will dwindle to -8 mpg.

2. As JSM said above you need to get a new tranny. A c-6 is bullet proof, but isn't worth a squat for highway or mileage. NO overdrive.

3. As JSM said above the wiring. Just a pain in the ass. I have this Bronco for 2 years and am still dealing with electrical issues. Grant it if you do it, you should have more control over it. I am just cleaning up the last guys stuff.

4. A 351 w, will perform very well if you build it right.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Check with the shop that did your trans. maybe they can change the guts of your tranny into a big block housing , then you can mate it up to your t/case. I just did the reverse of your plan , and put a small block in a 78 frame, the motor mount pedestals, lined up with no modification, it had a 400 in it originally, my 460 is going to use 67 tbird 429 mounts with adaptor plates, 2 out of 3 holes line up the 3rd is of by about an inch. this is all pertaining to 78/79 bronco frames but as the motor mounts are in the same place, I thought it may be of some help.
