Ive got a little problem with my transfer case. I have been using my 4wd like usual in the snow here in NY. Well I got stuck and went to use my 4wd and I have no 4Hi. I wiggled the lever back and forth and viola I got my 4Hi. Well I went to use it again and I had no 4Hi I pulled it back to 4Lo and 4Lo worked like a charm until I went to take it out then it wouldn't come out of 4Lo. I wiggled the lever back and forth for about 5 minutes and it finally came out and I got my 2Hi. So Im just wondering if anyone has had similar problems. So as far as I know I have a 1356 manual shift T-case behind a mazda 5spd. I havent looked into it very hard yet, but as for the shift forks, 1 engages the front shaft and the other engages the reduction. So the problem could be in the linkage but there isnt much of a linkage so I dont think thats it or its in the selector that moves the forks. Im thinking that the shaft that goes from the external shift lever to the internal selector is slipping and just spinning. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

The first thing I do when that occurs is to check the linkage for any mud or gunk, then be sure that the shift selector is in the proper range whenever you shift. There are 2 versions of the manual-shift B-W 13-56. One has a bolt holding the linkage to the selcet lever, the other has part of the linkage welded onto the selctor. IF it's the bolted type, check that it's tight and not stripped out. Once you eliminate the external linkage as a problem, there may something broken internally, like a shift fork. Blade262US has alot of experience on rebuilding these t-cases, and has posted some info before about the shifting problems, JSM84

did they put the 1356 behind the 5.0? i thought it was in HD trucks.

When you are trying to shift are you in N. What type of hubs do you have? does it help if you roll or rock the truck slightly?

Search my post here youll find a discussion about the 13-56 T case they are known to fail due to a hardened and then cracked oil pickup line for the internal pump . I would quit driving it and pull the T case you will just be out some time and a tube of silicone to reseal the case to check it out . I have rebuilt many of these for that reason and the last one dropped into 4 lo at 60 mph not fun . The symptoms you describe fit that issue to a T . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
