Finally getting around to doing the 3G upgrade, but I have a few questions. I've test fitted the 3G from a 93 Taurus 3.8L with 8.25" ear to ear. I won't have

Any fitting problems. I am concerned about the wiring though. My original alt has two plugs, one plug to the bottom of the alt with two thick black wires and one thin white wire. and one plug with three wires to the internal voltage regulator. According to the write ups on the swap, only the green/red wire needs to be attached to the new 3G alt. my question is, What are the other wires from the original alt plugs for and what do I do with them after the swap (minus the green/red wire of course).

My B-Co is 1987, 351w, duraspark II, carb'd with elec choke, c6 trans, and no EEC (from factory)

You need a 3G wire harness and charge cable. You can get everything you need from RJM http://www.rjminjectiontech.com If you have trouble hooking it up, Ryan has a contact button on his site. Click on alternators ans alternator accessories. The two heavy wires in the

old harness are the charge wires. One of them goes to the battery. I would replace the alternator to battery wire with the one you can get from

RJM which includes a monster fuse to protect the system. So basically, using the cable from RJM , it runs from the alternator charge lug to the monster fuse and then to the battery (+) terminal. The other heavy cable should hook in at the battery side of the monster fuse or at the battery (+) terminal, (electrically both locations are the same).

I'm winging it here just a bit, since I don't have an 87 wiring diagram.

Here is the way I hooked it up in my Bronco http://www.supermoto...ry/media/672658 The left cable goes to the alternator charge lug and everything else that hooked to the alternator is mover to the right side of the fuse.

Good luck,

Forgot to mention i already ordered the wiring from RJMinjections. With that said, the wiring i received was great; however, it should be noted about the wiring from RJMinjections: i thought that i would receive (2) 2 gauge wires, one from the the solenoid to the mega fuse, and one from the alt to the megafuse. Turns out, its a SINGLE long 2 gauge wire that has to be cut to make the two separate wires that feed from the solenoid and from the alt. THIS SHOULD BE STATED SOMEWHERE IN THE WRITE-UPS AND FORUMS. Fortunately, I finally found a use for the cutting tool that came with my air compressor. It cut through that 2 gauge wire like butter. But for those of us (including me) who wont initially know how to cut the wire, and dont have a air compressor cutting tool, some simple wire cutters will make this step a pain in the ****!! Other than that, the swap was a breeze. the wiring of the green/red stripe wire to the 3G alt is pretty straight forward, and comes with a nice weather connector. in addition to clamping the green/red stripe wire to the supplied connector hardware, i soldered it together also. Anyone considering the 2G to 3G alt upgrade should not worry about the wiring, as i did. You wont need all of the old funky wires to the original alt. Once the RJMinjections wiring connectors are made, according to the instructions, then the thick green wire (with the fusible link) can be removed from the starter solenoid and discarded. This thick green wire ran to the bottom plug of the original alt. the side plug that ran to the original alt can be discarded also, except for the green/red strip wire. You will need this green/red strip wire to make the weather connector previously mentioned. You may, or may not, need to get a shorter V-belt (search "give a penny, take a penny" in the forum for my write up as it applies to the belt). Other than that, it was an easy upgrade. Im not a certified mechanic or experienced with wiring diagrams, as i would imagine may of us B-Co owners aren't, but there is an easy way of explaining things, and i hope this helps to put things in laymen terms for the next...
