Hello everyone,

I'm new to this site and bronco's, my 17 year old son just purchased the above mentioned bronco II and after taking it "wheeling" the 4x4 no longer works.

We engaged the 4x4 in the drivway and could see the front axel spin so we figure the problem must be in the last connection going to the wheels. We have tools and time but little $$ any info on what's broken and how to fix would be greatly appreciated.

Schifty, are you saying the axle turns but the wheel won't? If so, then the trouble is either the U-joint has broken or something has stripped in the hub. Are these manual lock-outs or automatic hubs? Both are kind of weak, but the good news is that they're easy to work on with just normal hand tools.

Hi Runnin,

Thanks for the reply, we took the wheel off last night and are in the process of replacing brake's and roters. When we pulled the hub cover off we found small metel pieces so I figure we found the problem area. Anyone know of a web site that show's the inner working of the hub assembly?

Tips and how to's are needed and greatly appreciated. My son was inpressed that i could do brakes I may be his hero if I get his 4x4 back working.

Thanks again

Chris

Hi Chris; you might try www.autozone.com and go to their repair section. They have detailed instructions/pics on many repair procedures. Other than that, a Haynes manual would help.

I had the hub apart on my 84 BII a few years ago, and don't remember any problems or special tools that were needed. It's pretty straightforward.

Here it is:

Piece of cake.......
