Unclear to me what you're saying here but, as to dying under load...probably best to work thru the basics. (----BTW.., what year.., what eng., etc. ---)

CHECK

Timing & points

Carb. issues., as to choke function., accel. pump function., general carb. condition & cleanliness.

Fuel filter., fuel pump., fuel lines

One of those $20 repair manuals would go a long way helping you troubleshoot your rig.

Fuel pump in tank..?? water in oil...?

Lacking enough info. here...?

sounds like maybe you have a bad cat try unbolting the cat from the y pipe and go for a quick test drive if it runs fine after doing that the cat is clogged also the pump in the gas tank should just be a lift pump the pump that actualy supplies the higher feul pressure so thet the injectors operate properly is on the frame rail after the fuel filter good luck

Not sure if it's the same but i have the same prob on my 76 and it was the ignition module. i replaced everything. it would idle and run great up to 2000 rpm and then cut out and spit and sputter.
