i was at the pick n pull today and found a 88 with a full exhaust system still on it. headers into a 3 inch pipe to a flowmaster with dual outlets and crome dual tailpipes. the only thing missing was the cat. i went ahead and sprayed it with some pb blaster in case i decided to go back and get it but i wanna make sure the system will work on my 84 first. anybody have any feedback?

what engine was in the 88, the only problem i could forsee would be the headers......everything else should bolt up just like it is on the 88.....its pretty much the same layout underneath 80-96

damn i didnt think about checking that until after i left. half the motor is gone. its down to just the block sombody's already taken everything else. can you tell just by looking at the block if its a 351? i guess it would probably be on the emissions sticker assuming its the factory motor.

here are the VIN codes for the 88 351 is H and R and they should be in the 8th position of the VIN....the blocks are same, its just different ways of air induction between the H and R engine......, the code for the 5.0 is N, thats also in the 8th position in the VIN

The 351 if you look where the water pump jacket meets the block there is a 1 inch gap to the deck, the 302 the water jacket is pretty much flush with the deck. Should be very easy to see with the engine torn apart

SCORE!! i went back to the pick n pull today and got those headers. it was alot easier than i expected. the bolts didnt give me a hard time at all and the transmission and transfer case were already out of the truck so i just sat underneath the truck and ****** the whole assembly backwards and it came right out. well not exactly that easy but almost haha. i had to bust off all the spark plugs to get it to slide backwards but all together it only took me about 30 mins tops. the hardest part was trying not to be destracted by the fighter jets screaming right over your head. the naval airstrip is right next door to the junk yard so i had to listen to them land and take off the whole time. i felt like i was in iraq. anyways i didnt have a sawzall with me to get the muffler but i'm going back for that as soon as i can because its a flowmaster single inlet dual outlet and they only want 8 dollars for it. So now i've just gotta cross all my fingers and hope this setup works on my truck haha.

hit with a lot of PB blaster for a few days before you plan on doing the swap.....coat them really good......and they should come out
