So I have a 1986 ford bronco with 302 no mods at all. All stock. My problem is when the truck is running and idling fine and I go to roll down power window on driver side while truck dies. I have no interior light no power what so ever. The only way to get truck to start again is to disconnect better terminals wait a while like 30 min then reconnect terminals and then I have power. Any ideas on why it's doing this? Also why would the window switch **** the whole truck. I have changed solenoid battery starter all that good stuff is recently new. Anyone else had this kind of problem. Can a bad window switch **** the whole truck?

Well that is a new one :-&  When you restart the truck, is the window back up? or is it still down?

Yo Jojomular14,

Welcome!

If you just purchased this 86, see if the fuse blockmcircuit breaker has been replaced with a jumper wire, etc.

Or if it hangs closed and gets very hot when operating the window.

I don't have a wiring diagram.

Yo,

The 20 amp circuit breaker, next to flasher looks ok. No jumper wire evident.

EEC Relay Location in an 86; "...the 86 must have been a change out year in regard to the EEC Relay. On some you will find the fule pump relay and the EEC Relay under the hood, driver-side by the master cylinder/vac. On some 86's (like mine) you will find the EEC Relay in the cab to the right of the gas pedal...sorta where your ash tray would be.

Tan (some call it brown) = EEC Relay

Green = FP Relay..."

Check for socket corrosion, loose wiring etc.

I can not see any coorelation between window & ignition circuits other than a previous owner really hacked the wiring.

Did you just purchase the Bronco?

Yo,

Ok.

Only suggestion now is to check the EEC Relay, socket and wiring, because you mentioned the relay. Why did you mention it?

Next, back to basics, check battery voltage, posts, connectors, grounds etc.

Is ignition key cylinder ok; is it working in all postions such as start, accessory, etc?

EDITED TYPOS. SORRY, WAS VERY TIRED.

Battery is good terminals are good also I can't check cylinder positions because truck is completely dead. Guy I bought it from said it was new but the key doesn't go in there like I think it would if it were new.

Yo,

Ok, I thought it had power again after you wrote "I now have the window up". I should have asked.

Can you use a cheap multimeter to check for battery voltage at the battery, at the starter relay, fusible links at the relay, fuse panel, etc?

A battery that is fully charged produces 12.6 volts

No it was down when it died and then it came back to life for some reason I rolled it up and then turned the lights on and it died again. Sometimes it has power but like today it had power but then I close the hood and lost power. It's like it works for a min til I do something like touch the window switch or headlights it's really weird
