Hello, I've been on FullSizeBronco.com for a while but have started looking to branch out to other sites/forums and see if I can find information on projects not available there. The most recent that prompted me to come here is converting my 1986 Bronco XLT with a fuel injected 302 to a serpentine belt system although it looks like I'm more or less on my own there. That's fine though as it seems the final piece I'm missing is a new timing cover (got the water pump but I didn't realize it had a different footprint than the old one). Anyhow, here's a picture of the truck and a list of things I have planned for the summer.

- Serpentine Belt Conversion (in progress)

- 351w build up and swap (found a 351, waiting for it to be pulled)

- Sliders, bumpers and a roll cage (if time/money permits)

- Custom headliner/overhead console

- Whatever I find at the junkyard to install (replacement tailgate hopefully)

Anyhow, just thought I'd introduce myself and my truck. Take it easy.

Welcome I think you will like it here. I am a member of a couple of different Forums and this one is by far the best I did not like Fullsize because you could never get a straight answer and they always seem to be bashing on someone.

Hey, Pantsman, welcome to Bronco Zone!!! You prolly already know the water pump for the serpentine motors rotates opposite of the v-belt set-ups, just thought I'd mention that for general info. Enjoy the forums, JSM84

Yep, I grabbed all the accessories and brackets off the front of an 88/89 (can't remember which), along with the water pump. What I didn't know and didn't bother checking is that the footprint of the water pump is different so I have to change the timing cover as well. Now I'm trying to decide if I want to replace the harmonic balancer since I have to take it off to change the timing cover anyway. Probably not since I'm fairly sure mine is fine. I'm also somewhat regretting this now as I'll be swapping to a1989 351 (with serp belt) sometime in the next year. Oh well, it'll be good to have it changed even afterward so that the buggy I'm going to build around the 302 will have a serp belt too.

Yah, know how you feel on being on your own. I recently did a Saginaw PS pump conversion on my V-belt system including rebuilding the pump. Looked all over the net for info and wasn't lucky enough to find anyone who had done it on a V-belt system. Also, everyone who wrote up the pump rebuild, skipped the shaft bushing as do the rebuild instructions :blink: . I will be putting together a write up on both as soon as I'm satisfied that everything is really the way I want them. You can do the same for the Serpentine conversion, which was one of my options but not my favorite. Don't come down on me guys/gals, I'm not a fan of serpentine systems, simply because if you lose the belt you lose everything, not so on a V-belt system :wacko: .
