I was under my truck a few days ago changing the rearend oil out. I thought that maybe i would drain the transfercase and put some new fluid in it to. There is a drain plug and a fill plug. When I took the drain plug out there was about two gallons of tranny fluid that came out before i put the plug back in. The tranny fluid was low all of a sudden, too. Is the transfercase a seperate system from the tranny. Because if so I've got a bad seal or something. I don't think that there is supposed to be that much fluid in the transfercase. I don't know how long its been like that, but if it is a problem, would it hurt to make a 1300 mile trip. Any information would be helpfull.

They are supposed to be seperte systems. The NP208 takes 7.0 pints to fill it, and the Borg-Warner takes 6.5 Pints. Two gallons is a lot of fluid, that's like two Prestone antifreeze bottles full. Maybe you should get something and check the measurement. I'm sure whoever runs the kitchen will never notice the missing measuring cup :-" .

Good luck,

:)>-

Try filling the t-case back up to the fill hole so you know its full.

Then check the trans level to see if it changed. Fire it up and see if the trans level changes, then open the fill plug on the t-case and check the level.
