i have a 92 Bronco with the E40D tranny and when i shift into Drive it sits for a few seconds then kicks in. is there anything i can do to fix that and the rough shifting overall?

basic checks are: check fluid level and condition, pull codes, check vehicle speed sensor (VSS, or also called ABS sensor) on rear diff (Code 452), check Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

info from the VSS feeds into PCM to determine shift points
tone ring in the 8.8 or your VSS may need cleaning - as Steve once wrote; "...pull it out, wipe off any metal filings, & put it back in. No need to change it, or dump the oil unless it's LOADED with filings..."
