whenever im out riding around i can feel the floor board between the driver and passenger seats (the big ****) start cooking, physically hot to the touch. could that be the tranny just heating up and how hard is it to put a tranny temp gauge and a coolant system in?

if you want to check temp then put a temp guage on a t fitting that treads on and put it between the tranny cooler in the rad and the return fluid line to the tranny.

hows your engine temp? if it is getting hot then it will make the tranny cooler less efficient. and if this tranny over heat happens alot. then STOP DRIVING IT. Transmissions that run above 170 C will burn out in less than a year. you want 130 C or less if you want your tranny to last.

the engine temp is good i mean it reads normal and every now and then it will spike for like a split second (thrmostat gets stuck is all i can figure) and i have no way to determine the tranny temp as of now to determine what the temp is i dont have a coolant system for it. are they ahrd to install?

im not sure what it is. how would i find out is it stamped on a tag on it or located somewhere on the truck? i know that the only thing that has been done to the tranny was to have it rebuilt back in december (new bell housing) other than that it is the original

i have the e40d tranny in it and you say they dont have a bell housing? i thought that is what the entire case around the tranny was reffered to. that is what i had fixed the previous owner slung his driveshaft at 70mph and it shattered it.

i checked the exaust a couple weeks ago looking for any leaks but couldnt find any.

oooo ok i see what you were saying now, and now if the cats are glowing would that mean they are clogged and shot and in need of replacing or what?

okay so are you sure the heat is coming from the transmission? also with the transmission being a e40d that would make it an Electronic 4 gear Overdrive Automatic Transmission.

Because it is an automatic that means that there are two stainless steel lines. Similar to Brake likes, that come off the passenger side of the transmission that find their way onto the drivers side of the Radiator where they connect to a factory internal Oil cooler.

if you want to put on a temp gauge the connections to the rad would be the place to hook it up.

i'm still not 100% sure if that is where its coming from but i guess a temp gauge will tell me if it is overheating and then i can go from there and i was unaware that there was a factory cooler on it, i guess it would make sense. so what your saying i need to do to is just put on a t between the line from the tranny to the cooler.
