I just bought my first 4X4 its a 1990 bronco xlt. I was told by the people I bought it from that the motor and tranny were both rebuilt winter of 06 and its got about 10,000 on it since then. Every thing seams great with the exception of when it downshifts for acceleration it kicks in a bit hard, I'm not sure if its just a matter of it being low geared so that would be somewhat normal or if its something else. down shifts for slowing down are very smooth and so are up shifts its just under harder acceleration downshifts and I'm not talking about trying to run it down a dragstrip just normal passing or going up a hill.

Second: I've allways heard the horror stories of people changing tranny fluid and then the tranny going out. I myself am a victom of that happeining on my wifes last car, 5000 miles after haveing the tranny serviced its gone. Most of the time the stories go with, if you've got a lot of miles and the tranny hasn't been serviced regular leave well enough alone. My problem is that I don't know 100% if this tranny really was rebuilt and even if it were how good they were about it, and the odometor in the truck reads 80,000 and I don't know if its been rollled or not so it may be 180,000 for all I know.

Sorry for such a long first post, I'm brand new to the whole 4X4 thing so I thank you all in advance for any help, and I'll be heading over to the introduction area shortly.

YO! Welcome!

Try this first; a Self Test by BroncoJoe19

do the KOEO = Key On Engine Off portion first w/ All accessories/Lights Off

& Remember to have engine @ Normal Operating Temperature before doing the KEY ON ENGINE RUNNING (KOER) portion

I'd change the fluid & filter and pan gasket; does the fluid look and have No burnt toast aroma?

One way to check for any Ford Dealer Service history (if any) is to go to a dealer Service manager and they can look it up; if you get lucky you'll see odomoter readings

another is CarFax for a fee
