I noticed on a previous post the JSM84 had posted the door tag codes for the various Bronco trannys. Any way I could talk you into posting that list again??? Thanks in advance. Scott

Okay, We got the trans out of the truck and wrote down the nubers on the I.D. tag... The top line reads; RTSAH C E22, the bottom line reads; E4TRHA O233. From what I can gather from the links that you posted this is a T170FT. Any info on gear ratios? Who built these trannys for Ford? This info is not listed on either of the links. Any reliability issues that I should be aware of? BTW, after all the losing sleep over the trans issue, the problem turned out to be the clutch. The clutch was so fried that the disc could be rotated easily by hand with the pressure plate still bolted in place! Still interested in learning more about the durability of this trans. Thanks guys! Scott

Ford 4-speed "TOD" 3.29, 1.84, 1.00, 0.69 Aluminum case, "Toploader" design, top shifter (checking one more source for further info)

Looks like the 4-sp OD tranny you have is made by Tremec. Ford did change from the SROD to thte TOD in 84. You can do some further research, but you'll likely find that this tranny (TOD) is a real POS. No surprise that it's broken, and swapping to the T-18/T-19 or NP 435 would be a good upgrade for offroading. IF you want to keep the overdrive, then a swap to a ZF 5-sp OD would be much stronger than the POS Mazda M5-0D.

Thanks again for the info, JSM84... I do eventually plan to switch to a T18/T19 or a NP435, but for now we're just gonna change the flywheel (it's cracked!), throw a clutch kit at it, button it up and call it good. BTW, I thank you for your being patient with me. Although I'm 46, I'm brand new to the off road community, so I have alot of questions about my trucks that may seem stupid to you guys and gals, but I want to learn and that's why I joined Bronco Zone. Happy wheelin'! Scott

No worries! IF the tranny isn't broke, just be sure to keep fluid in it and check it often. And I'm like, 45-ish but drive like I'm 70... JSM84
