This is probably a silly question I know, but...

Behind the drivers seat above the rear wheel well is a container. It has 3 hoses coming out of it (through the wheel well) and it seems to go seperate ways throughout the truck.

It has a metal cover plate on it.

What is this for? (it is empty by the way)

Vapor cannister for the gas tanks. You should have one line coming from the rear tank, one from the aux. tank and one goes to the charcoal cannister under the pass. floor. It is an emissions thing that really doesn't do much. I took mine off when I did a rebuild about 8 years ago and never stuck it back on. Then I went to EFI and I have never put it on, nor have I had any problems.

perfect. thanks! I can't remember if there is a cap, should I be opening this thing up to vent it then? haha sorry for all the questions and thanks for the help.

actually, that is strange, my truck doesn't have the aux tank. was that an option? it's a 75.

If you don't have an aux. tank, then it probably has 2 lines coming from the gas tank or 2 from the charcoal cannister. It is a "sealed unit" that you can't actually get into, so essentially, you can't open it up. Theoretically, what it does, is it takes the vapors from a full tank, runs them through the plastic jug behind the drivers seat, they (the vapors) go down to the charcoal cannister where the get filtered through the charcoal. In otherwords, it is a gas tank vent. I clipped the lines at the plastic vapor jug and capped the lines. It gets quite a bit of breathing through the regular filler neck and overflow hose and really isn't necessary. Just an emissions deal, that if you have emmissions there in Canada, you better leave it on. If you don't, ditch it if it is bothering you.

Thanks for the info. It isn't bothering me. I was just curious. Being a "young fella" (as all the older guys with older cars call me) I had no idea what it was or what it was for. I figured since it was empty that I better check incase I was low on fluids. haha.

Thanks again. Much appreciated!

Pete
