The tach jumps like 500-800rpms when I am coming down a downramp, and let off the gas. Its not the tranny downshifting real hard or anything. Is this VSS related??? No VSS code, just that stupid 332 EGR which I have been fighting

tach jumping is a very common sign of a vss on it's way out. before going to a dealer and spending the money on a new one i'd disconnect it and give the metal tabs a good clean and the put some dialectic grease on them. if the tach continues to jump then it's time to replace it. up here a new vss is only $35 from the dealer so it's not a very expensive fix regardless

bought a new one, fought that locktite'd bolt, ended up being the wrong one, so I just cleaned the old one up with some throttle body cleaner, and it worked!!!

What ever they sold me is a some kind of speed sensor, it has a rod that turns, but is not what I pulled out the rearend!
