I want to upgrade the radio in my 79. Ive got a newer pioneer head unit that I want to install in the center console so I can retain the factory look of the dash. I havent looked very hard but I havent run across a wiring harness to hook into the truck? Anyone know exactly where I can get one, or an easy way to hook it up? Thanks!

There is no wiring harness for them...Also I ran into a problem on mine,I could be wrong but by looking at the wiring diagram in the manual and my own problem it seems the power for the radio somehow runs through the headlamp switch, something to do with the orginal dimmer,What kept happening to me was every time I cranked it up it would start to shut off and on over and over until I lowered it.At the same time I was burning up headlamp switches. But that may have been because Its not supossed to be the power wire,But it looks like the manual says it is.Thats how I found out about the wiring..So what I did was went right to the radio fuse and plugged into that AFTER the fuse so it still works like stock. And for the radios constant power wire which should be yellow? I tapped into my cig lighter wire,Havent hand any problems at all any more,,,Hope this helps,,,Mike

The reason for this was the wire you used was the stereo light power, you could dim it with the headlight switch. I also have used this as a power and if you dim the instrument panel lights the stereo would shut off. LOL. Get a test light and find a keyed power source, and a constant power source. You need the constant power so your deck has memory and a keyed source to ensure your stereo shuts off when the key is turned off to save on dead batteries

Your right ,,I know that was the dimmer,Thats why I had the problem but I couldnt find a 12v wire that was specificly for the radio, just that,, which obviously didnt work.HAHA

i don't think they make an adapter harness for our broncos. i thought about running an ignition power source to an aux. fuse block. that way i could add accessories like my sterio, cb, rock lights etc. to a fused power source, and leave all my stock wires alone.

The aux fuse pannel sounds like the best solution. Will be a bit more work to stsrt with but will simplify future jobs.
