Anyone know a source for the fabric type insulator material, where the tank fits up to the frame and where the strap touches the tank ends? A piece of fire hose has been suggested (as well as inner tubes & a boy scout web belt) but I'm trying to stay pretty original. I've got new straps & j hooks and the tank is all cleaned out and ready to mount.

Just go to the hdw store and get some 1/8" thick rubber and cut a piece to fit both mounts. If you have a body lift its a good time to raise the tank to the bottom of the bed. I used a rubber linner on the top of the tank so it wouldn't ever rub thru. The strap doesn't need any rubber.

Only other place that does is the rear of the tank at the rounded suports.

Thanks for the reponse, but I'm too deep into the "ground up resto" thing. There was some type of fabric on the mounts and the strap. No one would see the mount part but the strap part will show.

It is a felt material/canvas that you are thinking of. I wouldn't worry about the strap because it will just deteriorate quickly because of the location. Just strap that tank up and don't worry about it. Put the rubber up top by the bed and maybe on the corners of the tank where the strap is for a little added protection.
