Every time i come to a stop my bronco stalls , i have checked the spark plugs and wires. it has a really low idle to, when in gear it idle's between 400 and 500 hundred. when in nuetral or park it idle's around 1000. Any idea's on what it could be? Please Help!!!

Not knowing what year your Bronco is or type of engine doesn't help, but I'll start with the basics. Look for disconnected vacuum lines and vacuum leaks. Pick up a can of carb cleaner and while your truck is running, spray the cleaner around the base of the carb and around the intake. Any rise in RPM's will indicate a vacuum leak that needs to be fixed. Check you timing against the spec's and make sure it is set up properly. Check your fuel flow, your filter may be clogged or dirty, I would just change it as they are cheap. This seems to be a big topic lately on the web. After that, if you could answer the first question would help us help you.

Have you tuned it up??

Changed plugs, cap, rotor, air filter, fuel filter??

Have you sprayed the throttle body down with cleaner?

If it is breathing and firing ok, and there are no vac leaks, it almost sounds like a TPS problem. (throttle position sensor)

This probably isn't it, but while you're dealing with that stuff another thing overlooked a lot is the PCV filter in the airbox. Mine looked like someone had dipped it in motor oil and hung it out to dry.

Have you checked the curb idle adjustment? If you look on the emissions control sticker, it should tell you the proper idle RPMs. It really looks low to me. A carbed engine is set aroun 650 in gear and that works out to around 1600 when not in gear. My truck will stall if it is set below 600.

Just a thought.

Good luck,

:)>-

My 85 5.0 EFI was stalling at idle a few years ago no matter where the idle was set. I changed the EGR valve, cheap, only a couple of bolts and the problem went away.

Ditto on the EGR. I don't know why I didn't think of that before when I posted. Atleast pull it off and take a look at it. It is probably carboned up or the diaphrqm may be broken. They tend to carbon up and stick open or shut or part way. In any event that will cause the engine to have all kinds of poor operating characterisdtics. If it isn't bad, then I'd check some of the control components and vacuum lines.

Good luck,

:)>-

thank you for all of the help. i finally got it fixed, the idle was really low so i turned that up and then i replaced the air and fuel filters because they both needed it. now it is running like new again.
