where the speedometer cable connects to the black gear, held on by the clip, is my problem. From the c clip down is what is stuck/ frozen in the tail shaft. It won't budge. My speedometer works if you spin the cable, but that black gear is what I need to replace once I can remove it. I forgot to tell you the transmission is an AOD if that matters. Your pictures are great and maybe I should take some myself. It is very difficult for me to try an explain my problem. I hope this helps. Thank you again for trying to understand my lack of an accurate description to my problem. I appreciate all your help.

I beieve the drive gear (yellow in most Broncos & F series) turn with & only when the shaft turns
Here are some tips;
the speedo gear... it has a retaining clip behind it... remove the clip then slide it tight to the case... there
is a little ball there that keeps it from spinning...remove the ball but do not lose it... the gear will now slip off

Remove the black rubber washer. It just comes straight off the shaft. It’s snug. Pull harder.

Push the speedo gear down. Use a magnet to take the ball out. Take the speedo gear up and off the shaft.

Now you'll find a c-clip behind the speedo drive gear - remove this
Here you can just make out the BB which locates the speedo drive gear. Remove this and store carefully
used my bearning splitter to pull the drive gear off, but you can use long screwdrivers or pry bars *if you're careful*
You can just make out the notch in the drive gear that the BB uses to locate it
Now you must remove this snap ring; be sure you have _quality_ snap ring pliers. I eventually went to Snap On.
