Speedo gear on 1356 rebuild

Rebuilding a spare 1356 with electronic shift that I picked up. Pulled off the cover and I'm not seeing that it has a place to install or ever had the yellow speed gear like in this rebuild link here. http://www.fullsizebronco.com/forum/showthread.php?t=135334

Do all 1356's have this? Searched for about an hour now can't find a direct answer.

Just need to know if I need to buy and install one or not. My 1356 shaft doesn't have the ball bearing piece where the speedo gear would be either. A bit confused....

Hey Auto,

Looks like your transfer case is missing some parts. They are pretty easy to get to. Maybe the PO threw it back together and left them out.

Good news, now you can rebuild it correctly.

93 Ford Bronco, Correct?

If so;

That article by allfordman describes pre-92 years where VSS is mounted on transfer case tail housing

Your 93 has the VSS mounted on the rear differential as shown in this pic by Mark Z



Your VSS Path is from Rear Anti-Lock Brake System (RABS) Sensor (also called Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) & Differential Speed Sensor (DSS); through Connectors & 4WABS Control Module, etc to PSOM, PCM & E4OD & to Cruise (Speed Control), etc.

So you need not do anything relative to that yellow speed gear or ball bearing piece where the speedo gear would be either.

I stand corrected! I never thought about the newer speed sensor systems...my "Old School" thinking got me this time.

Yep it's a 93. That explains everything , had me stumped I got a lot to learn over the next few months my rig is getting a pretty serious overhaul.

I did not see yopur reply because it wasn't visible when I began my response, thanks to the NEW SUPER INCREDIBLY SLOW INTERNET SPEEDS that COMCAST provides with their UPGRADED BLAST that now COSTS $100.00 per Month!

By the time I was able to get the Replay sent, you had replied, but I did not see it.

It took me a few years to get all the VSS, PSOM vs Speedo and a zillion other thAngs straight; am still learning, but I forget what I knew last year! lol
