I don't know about with the C6 specifically, but saying the 300 can't maintain highway speeds at a decent RPM range is absurd. I run mine at 80-85 all the time and barely break 3000. **** in third gear I'm barely hitting 3000 at 45-50mph.

My point was simply this. You're not going to be running highway speeds offroad unless you're on a remarkably even trail or running in mud. Even then I'd be surprised to see anyone hitting 60-80. Under normal circumstances the 6 isn't held back any more than anything else until you get into a much bigger engine simply because it isn't the speed of the engine that slows anyone down, it's the condition of the trail.

There are cases when you get into more extreme trails/modifications where the V8 engines make more sense, but for the average joe using it as a daily driver, odds are you won't be going into those.

I dont doubt that your 300 will run down the highway at that RPM because at the factory they figure the final drive ratio and make it acordingly . Do you have overdrive ? that makes a big difference and being that the 300 make alot of torque off the bat Im betting that the rear end is geared a bit higher than V8 would be, but you take 2 identical drive trains same ratios same trannies same tire size. The 300 is going to be winding out of its powerband way before the V8 is done . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Blade...I think you and I were identical twins in a past life. The rest of you guys out there standing behind the I6, do not think that he is putting the thing down. He is simply stating the facts. No matter how you look at the specifics of this thread, he is correct. The I6 has a LONG stroke. It does not rap out like the v8. Its just simple math if you think about it.

I've had 2 Broncos one was a 81' with a I6 and the 4 speed. The one I have now is a 96' 5.8 Liter with a Auto. I really miss the 81', it was a beater while the 96 is nice. For low end grunt you couldnt beat the I6. My buddy has a 95' F150, with the 5 speed, 2wd. You almost dont need to shift that thing out of 4th gear, because you can lug that inline way low and it will still pull rpms when you give it some of the skinny pedal. Also the inline six was designed as and industrial engine, from what Ive heard, with one extra main bearing. The I6's especially the one barrel carberuated ones kinda run rough with the design of the intake manifold, the Fuel Injected ones run alot smoother.

For General 4 Wheeling, I would go with the I6. If I was running in alot of sand and mudbogs I would go with the 5.8L V8. If it was trails mostly I would go with the I6. You can always build the I6 to work well in the sand and the mud. Clifford Performance has some neet stuff for the 300 I6, the motto there is 6=8. The V8 will give you give you more revs, and let you rap it out. From my exprince my Bronco with the 81 got about the same gas mileage if I drove it hard or easy. If I drive my 5.8L hard the milage sucks, so I take it easy. The seem to get about the same milage. But thats a EFI compared to a Carbuerator.

I have an idea for a new twist on the topic...instead of arguing whose engine is bigger or better, why don't you all share modification ideas with the rest of us. I know you can add headers and a new carb and milk the I6 for a few more horses. I know some of you who specialize in I6's, who know a lot about how to build them up, so why don't you share these ideas with the rest of the kind folks here.

No matter how much we argue, we will not be able to convince anybody to switch from supporting the V-8 or the I6. So save your air. :-&
