When I removed the fenders I found the outerside of both door pillars had rusted through. The parts catalog only show a 'Front Door Pillar' which I would call the inside piece and I'm talking about the other side that connects to the inner finder. I know that this spot is pretty common but do I have to replace the entire piece (both sides). Is it one piece? Is replacing the whole door pillar a big job, looks like it. Would it be an option to just grind out the rust (the drivers side is about a third of the way up) and have a piece fabracated to be spot welded in?

Thanks for the advice.

Join the club! I have a little bit of rust there as well, I had to cut the top ***** that jolds the upper fender off. If you wire wheel the area you can see the dimples from the spot welds you can drill them out with a spot weld removal drill bit. it will then give you total access to back of all the metal in that area. if you want a real good rust inhibitor try the por15. its like a liquid tar and stops rust in its tracks. ive used it on maby vehicles and have never had anything come back from rust in the area were it was applied.
