Hey everybody,

I have a 86 Bronco, front pads have chewed up rotors so I got new pads and rotors. I started the project a couple of weeks ago. I got the man. locking hub off, no prob. All the way down to the Hub Nut, (I'm guessing thats wahat its calld, big spanner type nut), I dont have a socket to fitthis. Can anybody tell me what size/ type tool I need to be hunting, is this something a parts store would loan out? Also after I get that off, what should I know about seperating the hub and rotor? and , for that matter reinstalling the new rotor.

I FINALY have a little free time to get this done, woulds like to knock it out this weekend, so thanks for any help.

yo!

It's called a Wheel Bearing Locknut Socket or also ref to as da lockout spanner, or Spanner socket, or Ford Dana 44 4 Prong hub socket....Get it at NAPA, Adv Auto, etc. Price it via www searches at those stores. BTW, our last local mom & pop auto parts store is closing now, they would loan tools out for a smaller depsoit than the chain stores; for example, this socket is about $15.00 new; but since they got their $ back from all the rentals, they req only $5.00 deposit now.

Back off the adjusting nut approximately 45 degrees. Assemble the lock washer by turning the inner lockout to align the pin with the nearest hole in the lock washer. To lock it, install the outer lock nut and tighten it to 150 foot pounds. Grab the top of the tire with one hand and the bottom of the tire with the other. Move the tire in and out on the spindle. End play should be less than .006 – inch.).." Thanks to Chris!
