Rhino Liner?

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and recently (w/in 6 months) purchased a '76 Bronco. My idea: Rip out the carpet and coat the entire inside with Rhino liner (provided it's not a rust bucket...which from the undercarriage seems NOT to be). In theory, I'm hoping this will keep it from rusting in the future, but being new to performing my own vehicle maintenance I was curious if there were any "downsides" that I'm not considering. As of now she's my daily driver, and I plan on having her for a long, long time. Suggestions, comments, ideas???

Congrats on yer new Bronco. I have the interior of 67 rhino lined and I really don't like it. It was that way when I bought it, which didn't phase me then. But as I get in and out, especially working on it the surface is ******* the ol' body. It's like sand paper.

As this will be daily driver as of March next year (when the lease on my current car is up), I will be putting interior carpet and sound deadening insulation in place. It's really loud on the road with just the liner on the inside, since it will be only vehicle I am going to quiet her down a bit. That's my 2 cents worth....

It is durable as heck though.

Welcome to the board, I used "Duplicolor" bed liner, and sprayed it in myself, but it can be rolled in. It dries to a soft smooth texture, not ruff like most other liners. Check out my My Albums to see the pics of the liner.

I just put in the "Herculiner" do it yourself kit. It is very rough like sandpaper but that is ok with me so far. I am going to have the top off for the most part so I wanted something to help protect the bed from rust when it rains. It cost around $90 to do.

Thanks for the responses guys...it sounds like Duplicolor might be the way to go if I don't want a rough surface. 76Explorer, I tried looking at your My Album, but don't know where to find it. I found the Gallery pictures...real nice. Thanks again for the input.

I sprayed Herculiner in mine 8 years ago and it is still going strong. Daily driver with the only wear points at my heel under the brake & gas pedals. Like stated above, it is very rough, the Durabak or Duplicolor is a smoother texture as the compounds in the material is more rubber to plastic than what Herculiner. The Rhino & Line-X are sprayed in and are fairly thick when they are sprayed, but they are also going to cost you in excess of $500 to have the interior of your tub done. If you want to save the money but aren't worried about the texture, I would do it yourself with Herculiner or Durabak. Some of the other DIY bedliners don't have much of the non-skid material in them. If price isn't a worry, then do Line-X or Rhino. But it is worth it, it cuts down on the sound very minimal, but the advantage is that you can hose out the interior if you want and it does protect against the elements.

Genuine RhinoLining is worth the extra cost. It's soft enough to keep things from sliding around. If it's clean I can throw my guns right on the floor while hunting and not worry about scratching them. It's also very strong. We also use it on our oilfield service trucks and it holds up very well

I have used other roll on liners and this one is the only one to not come off. Plus it fairly cheap and you can get it in any clolor, sheen or texture.durabak

how about using por 15 on the surface to prevent rust, then when it has dried for a short time (a few hours) apply the spray or roll on liner for added protection and sound/heat barrior, then add some nice carpet to the front section and leave the back as a pick up with the liner. thats how i am doing mine.

actually with the liner on it actually helps keep things quiet. if you really want to quiet things down add some sound deadening to the rear 1/4's and install the side panels.

How much did it take to coat the tub of your truck?

interesting i'm all new to this how does this stuff handle heat from the under carridge.i'm wanting to do the same just worried it might mush up after a while thanks 75 bronco coming out of hybernation for retoration job

Most of those bed liners are pretty durable as far as the heat goes. I have Herculiner sprayed on the inside of the tub and in the engine box and none of it is flaking, peeling or turning into mush. The stuff in the engine box is still as rough as the day I sprayed it 7 years ago.

I tore out carpet and replaced it with Rhino Liner about six years ago. My thoughts...

- The liner has held up great and is perfect for most everyday use.

- I think it has protected interior rust however doubt it does much for the exterior underside.

- Once you spray it in their is no changing your mind down the road.

- interior noise is much louder with the liner.

- liner is easy to clean and maintain. As it gets older it has lost some of its luster.

- not sure how much weight it added...but, i thought the bronco seemed heaver if that is possible.

Durbak is around $90 buck a can and I had 1/4 can left after doing the inside or my EB twice.
