Pull off the safety clamp. Close the disconnect tool around the lip, then slide the tool into the lip. Grab the tool in one hand, the fuel line with the other, and they should pull apart.91 Full size bronco, 5.8L engine. Could someone explain how to disconnect these connectors? I have the disconnect tool but I can not get them apart. Anyone?View attachment 9019
Yep, that is what I tried previously, neither the one on the going to the fuel regulator nor the one on the return line from the rail will come apart. Tried a little WD on both also, no luck. I will keep trying though, never give up.Pull off the safety clamp. Close the disconnect tool around the lip, then slide the tool into the lip. There will probably be residual pressure in the line, so a rag or something to catch the fuel spray would be a good idea.
On the female side (fuel rail) there is a circular metal spring that sits betweel the raised lip of the fuel line and the outside edge of the bulge of the fuel rail. That disconnect tool fits between the fuel line and the spring then spreads it wider so the lip of the fuel line can move past it.Yep, that is what I tried previously, neither the one on the going to the fuel regulator nor the one on the return line from the rail will come apart. Thanks Bebop, I found it in the Chiltons manual. I am thinking the disconnect tool I have is too thick, it is an OEM brand that I picked up at AutoZone and I noticed when I bought them they were thicker than the plain jane type tool. Proves more expensive is not always better. I can push the garter spring back on the return line connector but I don't think it is going far enough, the spring will sit there after I pull the tool out but the line will still not come apart. If I move the line around a little the spring pops back out. On the line to the regulator the tool will not fit into the opening. Going to run into NAPA when the wife gets home from work and get a different tool.
